About Monk Bretton Priory
Our ‘Friends of Monk Bretton Priory’ group was formed in 2002 to work with English Heritage and Barnsley Metropolitan Borough Council to raise awareness of this site.
We fMBP are overseen by Barnsley MBC and English Heritage. We have been awarded a Heritage Lottery Fund grant to upgrade the priory site. As guests of Wakefield Diocese we meet with BMBC, EH, HLF, MP’s, regional officials and other specialists working to make this unmanned site better for visitors and local education.
Our historical studies focus upon human activity and architectural function on the site. Our fMBP group meetings usually include expert speakers, helping to establish Monk Bretton Priory’s place in regional history and culture.
The Friends meet on the last Thursday every month at Priory Campus, Lundwood Barnsley, at 7pm. and interested people are always welcome.
